Who We Are
Since our founding in 2018, our mission has been to empower native voters to get family and friends to the polls, run for office and build a bench of highly skilled field organizers ready to lead campaigns and the Democratic party. We fulfill our mission by organizing year round in rural and remote areas of Arizona's sovereign lands. Our team belong to the tribes they organize in and are able to build connections more effectively than an outside team.
Our work has directly and significantly impacted Arizona elections. Not only have we increased voter turnout year upon year, but we have also ensured that our communities are healthier and safer through meaningful policy change.
How We Organize
We run several programs year-round on Arizona's sovereign lands. Our key programs include our Youth Votes, Family Votes and Warrior Up Programs. These programs recruit organizers from Arizona's tribal lands and train them to use proven, relational-organizing tactics to build community engagement in the electoral process.
In addition to our relational-organizing programs, our staff organizers conduct high-traffic canvassing, door-knocking, voter registration drives, policy education events, and mutual aid campaigns such as our winter wood and back-to-school backpack drives.
Our Programs
Our Family Votes program was launched in 2022 with the goal of training matriarchs on sovereign lands to register their families and communities to vote and turn them out to the ballot box. We designed the program around native women because they are grounded in their communities and make the best advocates for their family and neighbors.
When a matriarch is recruited, she is taught relational organizing skills, how to register voters, what’s on the ballot, and how to cast a ballot successfully. They are then given a toolkit including all of the supplies they need to get family members and friends to the polls.
In the 2024 cycle, we recruited 376 Matriarchs from Hopi, White Mountain Apache, and Navajo Lands. They were responsible for turning out their families and friends to the polls in record numbers!
After the success of our Family Votes Program, we launched our Youth Votes Initiative in 2023. Youth Votes empowers voters aged 18-35 to register their friends and peers to vote and engage with them on the issues that matter most.
In 2024, we successfully recruited and trained 11 Youth Votes Ambassadors who were tasked with voter registration and creating events tailored to their peers, resulting in innovative and culturally relevant gatherings. These events included live music events, meals & discussion, fitness & fun, and more. As a result of their dilligent work, our YV ambassadors successfully increased voter turnout among voters aged 18-24 by 250%!
In 2025, we are launching a new relational organizing program focused on men, called the Warrior Up Program. While our Family Votes and Youth Votes Programs have been transformational, we recognize the need for a dedicated program to uplift and empower men in our communities.
This cycle, we’re launching an initiative to create space for men to engage with the issues they care about, take action, and contribute meaningfully to their families and communities.
